Sodium metabisulfite (Na 2S 2O 5) is an inorganic compound with white or yellow crystals and a strong irritating odor. Dissolved in water, the aqueous solution is acidic, and contact with strong acids will release sulfur dioxide and generate the corresponding salts. If left in the air for a long time, it will be oxidized into sodium sulfate, so sodium metabisulfite cannot be stored for a long time.

Applications:

Used in the production of insurance powder, sulfadimethylpyrimidine, anisidine, caprolactam, etc.; used in chloroform, phenylpropyl sulfone and benzaldehyde purification. It is used as the ingredient of fixing agent in photographic industry; used in the production of vanillin in spice industry; used as antiseptic in brewing industry; used as rubber coagulant and dechlorinating agent after bleaching of cotton; used as organic intermediate; used in dyeing and printing and tanning; used as reducing agent; used in electroplating industry, wastewater treatment of oil field and used as ore dressing agent in mines, etc.; used as anticorrosive agent, bleaching agent and loosening agent in food processing.
